Driving on the beach in The Hamptons is very different than driving on the road or even other beaches. We have a few tips before you hit the beach. Hopefully, if you familiarize yourself with this you won’t have to call us.
- Know Your Beach Manners
- Leave only tire tracks on the beach. Remember, other people use the beach. Be courteous to not only for the visitors to the beach but also t0 the people that live here.
- Many species, one planet, one future. We are sharing the beach with not only people but creatures too. Please be considerate of their habitats.
- Am I Allowed To Be On This Beach?
- Know your local Laws and Ordinances. Southampton Town, East Hampton Village, Montauk, so many towns, so many different authorities. You can always call us if you have any questions.
- DRINKING AND DRIVING IS ILLEGAL. Nuff said.
- Some Questions you should be asking before you get on the beach:
- Is beach driving allowed on this beach?
- Are there time restrictions for driving on this beach?
- Do I need a permit to drive on this beach?
- What is the speed limit on the beach?
- Is My Vehicle Beach Worthy?
- All-Wheel Drive is not Four-Wheel Drive. All-Wheel Drive vehicles are built for better traction on the road, they are not built for off road use, especially the beach.
- Tires Matter. So you have a Four-Wheel Drive vehicle with some sweet low profile tires. Nice, but they’re not built for the beach
- Air Pressure. Air down those tires, but remember not too low so you can make it to your local air servicing if you don’t have an air pump. Call us if you need help finding a place.
- Use Low Range. This is what is there for. There’s no reason for high gear since you shouldn’t be speeding down the beach anyway.
- Some Things to Keep Handy in Your Vehicle
- Have a shovel. There are plenty of small collapsible shovels that you can keep in your vehicle
- Flashlight. Phones work ok but a real flashlight will work better. Plus if your battery dies you won’t be able to talk about us on Facebook.
- Air Pump. For airing up those tires.
